My Sister's Wedding

Day 1~ Sight Seeing

Dana and I took the Red Eye to New York and then drove a rental car to New Jersey. We arrived early so we stopped to eat breakfast before heading over to my sister's house. After visiting for awhile Dana and I headed over to Liberty and Ellis Islands. I have never been through so many security check points in my life.

It's hard to believe that millions of people lined these halls waiting to pass the immigration inspection. The original immigration station opened on Jan. 1, 1892 but burned down. A new station was built with the French Renaissance style. It opened on Dec. 17, 1900.

Next stop~ Liberty Island

My sister lives about 3 or 4 miles from where we caught the ferry to go to the Islands. Dana and I got very lucky because we received tickets to go up inside the Statue of Liberty. I guess they like West Coast folks after all.

Looking up Lady Liberty's dress. She is supported by steel bars that are connected to four main pylons.

These pictures were taken from the pedestal. As I mentioned earlier, we were extremely lucky to get to the pedestal. The picture on the right is Manhattan from the pedestal. The Brooklyn Bridge is on the far right of the buildings.

  1. Wow! Looks like you had a good time! I never thought about having steel bars hold up my dress, but if it will help, I might give it a try!
